Service Description

Join us in expanding your mug making skills this winter season in this special drinking vessel and handle-making focused course! Students will explore a variety of drinking vessel forms and have the opportunity to examine a variety of handmade mugs from Wooten's personal collection to study. Students will learn a variety of handle-making techniques such as pulling handles on and off the pot as well as slab-built handle methods. To get the most out of this class students should have the ability to create a cylindrical form on or off the wheel. Instructional aid will be provided for complete beginners, however the primary class will focus on exploring forms and handle-making techniques. Due to the abbreviated class length, this course will focus primarily on making work. Pieces made may be glazed independently through the month of December. Ages 12+ To Bring: Notebook/sketchbook and writing utensil. Laptop or smart device for research. Old clothes or attire you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Your favorite pottery tools. Tool kits will be available for purchase on the first day of class for $15. If students would prefer to bring in tools for class on their own, the following will be required for this class: a metal rib, wooden rib, needle tool, wire tool, sponge, wooden knife, fettling knife, and trimming tools. Additional Costs: Glazing and firing fee: $20 One bag of clay is included in the class cost. Additional clay can be purchased from Wooten Clayworks if desired. Refunds are not available once the course has begun. Payment plans are available for members and long term students. We do our best to work with the community to offer them quality ceramic education and resources.
