About the Event
Come learn to build funky curvilinear forms with Dehmie Dehmlow!
Using a variety of slab building and refining techniques, Dehmie creates dynamic and abstract pottery. She uses different layering approaches to create rich layers of color and texture on her pots, crafting visually and physically exciting pieces.
During this one-day in-person workshop, participants will learn how to design a template to use to create a slab-built a vessel. Dehmie will demonstrate soft and stiff slab construction as well as refinement techniques to achieve crisp, asymmetrical, volumetric forms like plates, mugs, bowls, butter dishes, pour-overs, and her unique “boat” forms.
The techniques that you will learn during this workshop can be translated into pottery forms as well as small to large scale sculpture. If you are interested in expanding your hand building capabilities to include the use of templates and soft and stiff slab construction, come join us!
This workshop is suitable for artists of all levels with basic clay abilities!
This workshop will include breakfast refreshments and a 45-minute lunch break. We will be partnering with local restaurants to provide lunches on-premise, if you would like to purchase a lunch through us, please check the box on the registration form. Feel free to bring your own lunch, snacks, and beverages! We seek to foster a community here, so if you want to bring enough to share, we always encourage pot-luck style gatherings. We will also be making dinner plans at the conclusion of the workshop, which partcipants are welcome to join for.
