Firing for Flow: Glazing, Kiln Armatures, and Stacking Techniques with Lisa Orr -MISSA

Are you looking for a new way to approach electric firing? Tired of the same old glazing methods? Please join us in Lisa Orr's new studio as she walks through her comprehensive glazing and loading techniques!

Usually, Orr's weekend and short workshops cannot cover in-depth her unique approach to glazing and finishing. We, however, will be thoroughly covering that side of her process: engobe and glaze layering, as well as glazing and loading techniques, using several types of firing armatures and handmade stilts. Orr stacks her electric kiln in unconventional ways to drive movement effects, such as colors flowing through other colors, creating "stained-glaze" windows; glazing above where you want the glaze to end up; and drips that go upside down in the kiln, so they later become part of the form, creating upward movement.

This workshop is suitable for artists of all levels!

This workshop will cover the following:

-Orr's glazing and finishing process

-Layering and creating colorful glaze surfaces

-Making unique kiln furniture and stilts for your pottery

-Orr's unique kiln loading techniques

-A variety of recipes provided by Lisa Orr

-A brief studio tour of Orr's new studio!

-A brief introduction about Orr and her work

The workshop will be recorded for students to access following the event. So if you can’t make the day of or will be late, you will still get access to all the information of the workshop for 3 weeks! The recording will be available for viewing following editing.
