Gestural Figures: Chicken Scratch with Julie Woodrow - The Artist

Join Julie Woodrow as she walks us through the process of sculpting from observation! Woodrow is a figurative sculptor who creates a range of characters from the human form to birds and mammals. This workshop will explore her figurative sculpting techniques by focusing on creating a hand-built form in the guise of a chicken head.

During this workshop, Woodrow will discuss:

-Choosing subject matter

-Collecting reference images

-Visual perception

-Contour

-Proportion and working from general to specific as essential considerations when sculpting from observation.

The sculpted form will be explored as a playground to develop a variety of carved, impressed and textured surfaces. Woodrow will share examples, talk about teaching, as well as making and personal and visual influences. The class will also provide demonstrations of underglaze and staining processes as well as information about glazing and firing options. This workshop contains a variety of information for artists of all levels and questions are encouraged! Bring a snack, favorite beverage, and be ready to learn!
