About the Event

Plaster can be an intimidating material to begin working with, but it can open the door to a large array of new decorative techniques and form options in your practice! Sprigs are an amazing tool for creating detailed ornate patterns and imagery on ceramics. Sprigs can also be utilized to alter forms, as well. While sprigs create a raised decoration, stamps create a recessed impression into the clay and are great for decoration. Both techniques can be used for signing work as well!

During this one-day workshop, Dallas will guide students through the making of 1 to 3 sprigs and stamps during, and will cover small casting techniques as well as introductory stamp carving skills.

Students aren't required to bring anything to this class. However, they are encouraged to bring small objects they may be interested in making sprigs or stamps with. Interesting textures, small knick knacks, and most of all, ideas they'd like to translate to their work. Students will be modeling sprigs out of clay provided through the workshop, so if you don't have anything specific you want to bring in to make a stamp from, it's not a problem at all.

Since this class runs through lunch hours, we will do a lunch pickup and take a 30 minute lunch break as needed. Feel free to bring your own lunch, snacks, and beverages! We seek to foster a community here, so if you want to bring enough to share, we always encourage pot-luck style gatherings.

Note: While we can’t guarantee the quality and success of the pieces you make in this class, instructors will do their best to guide you through the process. Students are expected to assist with cleanup of their workspace.
