About the Event
Join us to learn how to throw and alter forms with Kyle Johns!
The objective of this workshop is to introduce the potentials of altering wheel thrown forms for visual and tactile expression. Students will investigate altering techniques, concentrating on instrument, material, and method. For the duration of this workshop, students will be prompted to transform their basic thrown forms into distinctive works. Through the creation of vessels, students will develop fluency of technique with emphasis placed on individual exploration of ideas. Students will then explore Johns' approach to handle making to finish mug forms of their creation in the workshop.
This workshop contains information suitable for students with a beginner or advanced level understanding of the wheel. Some wheel experience is needed and students should be able to throw a basic level cylinder on the wheel. The Instructor will guide students through his own method of throwing and advise students, but they should be expected to be able to throw the basic forms themselves.
This workshop will include breakfast refreshments and a 45-minute lunch break. Feel free to bring your own lunch, snacks, and beverages! Wooten Clayworks will be picking up food from Mama's Cafe Baci. Students are welcome to place orders through the studio and have us pick it up for them if they would like. We seek to foster a community here, so if you want to bring enough to share, we always encourage pot-luck style gatherings.
