Service Description

Learn how to make a birdbath/pedestal dishes in this special topic course! Students will learn how to handbuild or throw* pedestal bases, how to combine components to create height, as well as add details to the surface to make a fun and useful object for the garden! *Please note that if you intend to throw components of your birdbath, you should arrive to class able to center clay and pull cylinders and bowl forms. However, for beginners new to clay, handbuilding is definitely possible and a lot of fun too! Students should be aware that we are limited by the size of our kilns. Dishes will be able to be <18” in diameter and <20” in height. However, for beginners, it will be advised to make something smaller than the maximum dimensions listed above, as the smaller the dish, the greater chance of success. Students will receive 25lbs of clay with the cost of this class. However, if you intend to make something rather large, additional clay can be purchased. Please note, the larger and thicker the piece, the longer it will take to dry before it can be fired. If projects are still wet by the end of the course, an additional appointment may be required after it concludes to glaze pieces post bisque firing. The cost of this course is $400. Students pay an online deposit of $100 to register and have options for paying the remainder in-person. To Bring: Notebook/Sketchbook and writing utensil. Old clothes or attire you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Tool kits will be available for purchase on the first day of class for $15. If students would prefer to bring in tools for class on their own, the following will be required for this class: a metal rib, wooden rib, needle tool, wire tool, sponge, wooden knife, fettling knife, and trimming tools. Intermediate Level. Ages 16+ Additional Costs: Glazing and firing fee: $45 Pay As You Go: Please note, a $100 deposit is paid when you book this course. If you do not pay the remaining $200 for the course at the first class, we do offer payment plans, however, the price per class increases to $58. In this case, the deposit amount is applied to the last 2 classes. Members may inquire about additional payment plans if necessary. We do our best to work with the community to offer them quality ceramic education and resources. Refunds are not available once the course has begun. Cancellation Policy

Bookings for classes, workshops, events, and private lessons which are canceled 7 calendar days or more prior to the class or event will receive a full refund. Any cancellations received 7-3 days prior will receive a 50% refund. Any and all cancellations 2 days or less before the class/course are not eligible for a refund. Cancellations which are at least 24 hours prior to the class may transfer their booking to another applicable date or find a substitute student to take their place. If you need to cancel after the 7 day window, please contact the store. Wooten Clayworks cannot reschedule with less than 24 hours notice due to the inability to fill the space that was taken from another potential student. Please note there is a 2 student minimum for classes to run. Students will be notified the day prior if the class has to be cancelled and will receive a full refund.
