Service Description

There are many ways to create exciting surfaces on pottery besides simply coating them in glaze. In this course, students will be guided through a variety of decoration techniques that can take your pieces to the next level! This class will discuss creating imagery using slip trailing, sprig molds, water etching, inlay, sgraffito, mocha diffusion, and more! Class time will be dedicated to decorating. Taylor will show students how to make quick, flat tiles to practice on, but if you want to decorate pottery and/or sculpture, you will need to make those pieces outside of class. If you do not have a membership but do want to make pots/sculptures to decorate, a lite membership is encouraged. It is $10/week and gives you 2.5 per week of studio access outside of the course. Without a membership, you will have 2.5 hours access outside of class throughout the entire course, which might not be enough time if you want to make multiple. We will decorate both leatherhard and bone dry pieces in this course, so feel free to stock up on work to decorate as soon as you'd like to start making them. Each class will introduce a different technique, but students should feel free to focus on whatever process they are interested in week-to-week, especially if they have taken a decoration course before. The cost of this course is $400. Students pay an online deposit of $100 to register and have options for paying the remainder in-person. To Bring: Notebook/Sketchbook and writing utensil Old clothes or attire you don’t mind getting a little dirty Additional Costs: Glazing and Firing fee: $45 One bag of clay is included in the class cost. Additional clay can be purchased from Wooten Clayworks if desired. Certain glazes/techniques may have an upcharge. This is a stacked class. No prior experience required, but semi-advanced guidance will be provided for those who have thrown before. Ages 16+ Pay As You Go: Please note, a $100 deposit is paid when you book this course. If you do not pay the remaining $300 for the course at the first class, we do offer payment plans, however, the price per class increases to $58. In this case, the deposit amount is applied to the last 2 classes. Members may inquire about additional payment plans if necessary. We do our best to work with the community to offer them quality ceramic education and resources. Refunds are not available once the course has begun. Please visit our policies page for cancellation and rescheduling information.
