Decoration: Water Etching
4 Week Course
Available spots
Service Description
Practice the unique decoration technique known as water etching! In this course, students will be shown how to create shallow relief imagery on pottery using wax and paper resists. Water etching looks great under glazes that pool and show off textures or are transparent tints. Some experience in working with clay is encouraged, but not required. If you are a member of the studio or make ceramics at home, you are welcome to save up some bone dry pots for this class to practice the technique on (fine particle clay recommended). If you are brand new to clay, Taylor will guide you through basic handbuilding techniques to make simple forms to practice decorating, but she will not be teaching the basics of wheel throwing due to how short this course is. The cost of this course is $200. Students pay an online deposit of $100 to register and have options for paying the remainder in-person. To Bring: Notebook/Sketchbook and writing utensil. Old clothes or attire you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Tool kits will be available for purchase on the first day of class for $15. Intro-Intermediate Level. Ages 16+ Additional Costs: Glazing and firing fee: $25 One bag of clay is included in the class cost. Additional clay can be purchased from Wooten Clayworks if desired.
