The total cost of this course is $335. Students pay an online deposit of $100 to register and pay the remainder of the class fee the first day of class. Payment plans are available upon arrangement. Carving, water etching, and slip-inlay can produce some of the most beautiful decorative surfaces in ceramics. This is an intro through advanced friendly course that explores a range of decorative techniques that Wooten has honed over the years. This course will explore traditional line carving, low relief carving, Mishima/slip inlay, and traditional water etching/water carving techniques. Students will learn both the pros and cons of different clay bodies for each technique and how to choose glazes that highlight these techniques. While this course is a great introduction to water etching and carving, it will not cover Wooten’s specific approach to raw water etching.
